The package contains a plant in a plastic pot.
About the plant:
Alocasia , or alocasia in Czech , is a genus of the Araceae family . These plants are massive herbs with a thick rhizome. Their homeland is the subtropical and tropical regions of Asia, Australia and the Pacific. Alocasia generally belongs to the rather demanding houseplants, which are sensitive to temperature, humidity and overwatering. At the same time, keep in mind with allocations that they often replace old leaves with new ones (so they usually do not increase their number).
In Southeast Asia and Oceania, they are particularly popular for their edible rhizomes and small boiled leaves. Although in their raw state they contain calcium oxalate, which causes mucous membrane irritation and nausea, they are edible after heat treatment. At the same time, the rhizomes are also sought after by Indian and South Asian traditional medicine for their healing effects.
Alocasia melo is one of the rare, thick-leaved alocasias - the leaves have prominent veining and a greenish-blue to jade color. Thanks to their "rough" appearance, we can also find this alocasia cultivar under the name Rugosa.

We wrote more about allocations in our article .
The plant needs enough diffused light for healthy growth. Avoid direct sunlight, which could burn the leaves. The ideal site is the north and east side near the windows or the west side with fading weak sunlight.
We water in 1-2 weeks, it prefers wetter soil. However, let the upper part of the substrate dry out between waterings. Overwatering could cause rotting of the roots.
It is a tropical plant, so it requires frequent misting of the leaves.
Older plants can be propagated by division or broken tubers. Leaf cuttings are a big nut to grow, so it is not recommended to use them to propagate.
Overwatering: Too much water can cause root rot, yellowing or leaf drop. Brown spots on the leaves: Brown spots on the leaves can refer to too much direct light that burned the plant or to cold weather (e.g. draft). Dry air: due to insufficient air humidity, the leaves of the plant can start to dry from the tips and turn yellow or curl.
