Akadama

Akadama is a fired Japanese clay, used mostly for bonsai and for making kokedama, but it has other uses too. It comes in granules, so it lets water and air pass through the potting mix well. Akadama itself holds water and nutrients well for plant roots.

• Handling:

  • Wearing protective gloves is recommended when handling akadama to prevent skin irritation.
  • Avoid inhaling dust that may form when pouring akadama. Wear a protective respirator or mask when working with larger quantities.
  • Keep akadama out of reach of children and pets to prevent accidental ingestion.

• Maintenance:

  • Store akadama in a dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight to preserve its quality.
  • When handling akadama, take care not to scatter it into the air, which could create fine dust.

• Safety warnings:

  • Akadama is a natural material and is not hazardous to health in normal use. Even so, we recommend following basic hygiene rules and using protective equipment when working with larger quantities.
  • Keep akadama away from water sources to prevent it from getting contaminated.

• Recycling: Akadama is a natural, biodegradable material. It can be used for composting or another eco-friendly purpose.
• Waste disposal: Unused akadama can be disposed of in an eco-friendly way according to local regulations or used in the garden.
